Your Dog Birthday Cake: 3 Options

Option 1: Fresh Cake Shipped to Your Door

If you want a finished cake shipped to you, you'll need to order at least 7 business days in advance, but this is the easiest option if you're strapped for time. It's faster than making one yourself and more convenient than driving to a bakery to pick one up.

Very few dog bakeries will ship a fresh cake, but we've found a handful that will. We carry their cakes and usually have them on hand for immediate shipping. You can view them here. There are dog bakeries popping up in cities all across the country. They make delicious, dog-safe cakes that are professionally decorated and often delivered.

These cakes are not cheap -- expect to pay $25 to $45 -- but they can save you some trouble and give you a great-looking cake.

Option 3: Make it Yourself

If you're making your own dog birthday cake, a quick cake mix is the easiest way to go. The example shown at right is a mock-chocolate cake made with dog-safe carob. It's an easy dog cake recipe that's half done for you.

By using a dog birthday cake mix, you have more time to decorate the cake. Make a project out of it with your kids or friends.

Note: Cakes that taste good to dogs will not taste good to people because they are made without sugar and sometimes get their flavor from meat and other things that smell and taste good to dogs. Suggestion: Have a cake for the people at your party, too. Even if it's a canine occasion, people attending a birthday party look forward to having cake.
