Halloween Party Games for Dogs

Costume Contest

Create scoresheets and arrange guests along a long catwalk. Ask each guest to model his or her costume in turn, while the others write down a score. Award prizes.

Treat Hunt

Hide treats around the yard or party room and let dogs find them.

Howling Contest

Get the dogs howling and award prizes for the loudest, funniest, weirdest, longest, etc.

Photo Contest

Keep the fun going after the party. Pass out disposable cameras and ask guests to take pictures. Share the best ones with all the guests, and name a winner for funniest picture.

Bobbing for Tennis Balls

Fill a large plastic tub or shallow bucket with room-temperature water, then let the dogs bob for tennis balls.

Fun-Raiser

Ask each guest to bring a toy for a local animal shelter. Collect toys at the door, putting a gift card on each toy with the name of the dog giving it. When you take the toys to the shelter, share their comments with all your guests who donated. Take pictures, too.

Dog/Owner Look-Alike Contest

Ask each owner to come dressed like his or her dog. Whether or not the dogs are in costume, this can be hilarious (imagine human "Collies," "Yorkies," "Bassets" and "Pugs"). Award funny prizes appropriate to the breed, such as shampoo to the person who makes the best fluffy dog, a scented candle to the best hound, etc.

Tricks for Treats

Ask each dog to perform an obedience command or trick and provide treats for rewards. This can be entertaining if all dogs are leashed and one dog and owner at a time gets up before the group to do the trick. Dogs who don't know any tricks can still perform simple commands such as "come" and "speak."  Next
