Association -- By the mid 1990s, 50 percent of pet
guardians admitted to celebrating their pet’s
birthday.
Among dog owners, 43 percent celebrate their
dog's birthday, according to a 2002 national survey
conducted by Purina Pet Institute in St. Louis,
Missouri.
St. Louis Today, June, 2005 -- More than more than 2
million Americans bake a cake [for their pet's
birthday]. Another million give dog parties for
reasons other than birthdays.

47 states have at
least one dog park (as of October 2005). With 8 dog
parks, Houston has the most dog parks of any
U.S. city, with 5 more under development.
