Have a Dog Picnic

Here's how ...

Decorations

Dog picnics can be very low-key, but still special and memorable. Here are some party ideas from Jamie Kisler and Michelle Caballero, of Pawsitively Delicious, a gourmet dog treat and gift company in McKinney, Texas.

Invitations

If you're making invitations, send them out two weeks before the picnic date, to leave plenty of time for people to clear their schedules. Here's a great idea for a cute invitation you can make, from Jamie and Michelle:

MATERIALS

  • Heavy-duty paper in black, white and red check

  • Scissors, hole punch

  • Glue

  • 1.5" ribbon

INSTRUCTIONS

Type or hand-letter your picnic details on a piece of white heavy-duty paper. You can find clip-art to add to your invitation, too.

Cut a piece of black heavy-duty paper into a 8.5 x 6" rectangle.

Cut a piece of red check paper in to an 8 x 5.5" rectangle, and glue to the black sheet.

Trim your white piece of paper so it fits on top of the red check paper, allowing enough room at the top for the ribbon (approx 3") and glue it on.

Punch two holes in the top of the invitation, approximately 1.5" to 2" apart. To assure that they're centered and even, mark the hole location with a pencil. Measure from the top edge and the side edge  to each hole.

Thread the ribbon through and make a bow. Or, to make the configuration shown above, put both ends of the ribbon through the holes so that the ends are on the back side. Cross the ends and pass them back through the holes so the ends are on the front side. Trim the ribbon.    Next
